When it comes to improving your health, it’s tempting to do everything at once.

You might think:

“I’ll start eating better, cut out sugar, drink more water, get to bed earlier, AND do daily workouts…”

But here’s the truth: trying to change everything at once usually leads to changing nothing.

Because small changes feel manageable.

They build confidence.

And most importantly, they give you momentum.

Real-Life Example:

One of my clients felt overwhelmed by the idea of “eating healthy.” So instead of changing her whole diet, she started with just breakfast.

She swapped her toast and jam for a protein-packed breakfast like eggs, spinach, and avocado.

One meal. One change.

Within a week, her energy improved, she had fewer cravings, and because that one change felt easy, she felt ready to tackle the next one.

That’s how healthy habits stick, step by step.

The Science Bit

BJ Fogg, a behaviour scientist at Stanford University, calls this the “tiny habits” method. He found that we’re far more likely to keep a new habit going when we:

  • Start small

  • Tie it to something we already do (e.g. “After I brush my teeth, I’ll take my vitamins”)

  • Celebrate the win (even if it’s just a fist pump or a mental “yes!”)

Try This:

Choose one simple thing to focus on this week.

Here are some ideas:

  • Add a palm-sized portion of protein to your lunch

  • Set an alarm to drink a glass of water mid-morning

  • Do 10 minutes of stretching while the kettle boils

  • Switch scrolling time in the evening for reading or journaling

Whatever you choose, make it easy enough to do even on your busiest day.

Remember, change doesn’t need to be dramatic to be effective.
